About Raxaul

Raxaul, a sub-divisional town in East Champaran district of Bihar is situated on the India-Nepal border. Being a  developing country, Raxaul attracts the high volume of trade. Most of the products manufactured in Birgunj, Nepal passes through Raxaul Bazar.

Geography of Raxaul Bazar

Raxaul is located at 26.9833 degrees in North and 84.8500 degrees in the East. The average elevation of the town is 223 feet or 68 meters. The Sariswa River which originates in Nepal after streaming for 15 kilometers in Nepal enters India through Raxaul Bazar.

Demography of Raxaul Bazar

According to the census of 2011, the population of Raxaul Bazar was 55532. The avg. literacy rate of the town is 75.62 percent. Hindi and Bhojpuri are the local languages of Raxaul.

Transport in Raxaul Bazar

Raxaul Bazar was earlier known as Falejarganj. Raxaul is linked with other parts of Bihar through a vast network of roads. NH 28A connects Raxaul with all the important cities of Bihar. From Raxaul bus stand one can catch buses for Jharkhand and parts of Bihar. For local transport one can hire cars, jeeps, tongas, tempos, and rickshaws. Raxaul Junction is situated on the Delhi – Gorakhpur - Raxaul - Muzaffarpur - Kolkata lines. The town is linked to many cities of Bihar via regular local trains. Raxaul is well connected with cities like Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, Hajipur, Sugauli, Motihari, Samastipur, Narkatiaganj and Bagaha through daily local trains.  The Masnadih Railway Station, Ghorasahan Railway Station, and Chauradano Railway Stations are the nearby railheads to Raxaul Bazar. Siwan Junction is the major railhead which is located at a distance of 110 km from Raxaul.

The Raxaul Airport is situated at Ekderwa in Bihar State. The airport was set up after Sino Indian war in the year 1962. At that time this ground had served as the emergency landing for Indian army. The Raxaul Airport is owned by AAI(Airports Authority of India) which has started a pre-feasibility study at this airport to improve the airport to deal with the ATR-72 Aircraft. The State Government has also been requested to grant an extra 121 acres land which is required for the airport. Right now there are no planned commercial air services. One can reach Raxaul via air by getting down at Simara Airport in Nepal. Simara airport is about 27 kilometers from the town of Raxaul and offers direct flights to reach Kathmandu. There is also a proposal which has been forwarded to the State Govt. to make the airport operational for the city dwellers.
